for CSEAS
The studies on
Mekong sub-region, consisting of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam, is one of
the core missions of the Institute of East Asian Studies (IEAS). Consecutively,
in 2552 (2009), the Institute of East Asian Studies established CLMV Center
(Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam) as a research center to develop knowledge on
these countries.
Later, in 2556 (2013), the Institute of East Asian
Studies realized the importance of the studies on Southeast Asia, which
consists of 11 countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore,
Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Timor-Leste, because,
on one hand, Thammasat Academic community has become more expert in ASEAN
countries. On the other hand, the studies on these countries has become more
crucial to Thailand and its neighboring countries. To expand the Institute’s
role in research and to establish academic network within ASEAN countries, the
Institute of East Asian Studies has changed the title “CLMV Center for Research
and Development” to “Center for Southeast Asian Studies or CSEAS”.
